Well...does your heart beating faster always mean you're attracted to someone...? Like...beat faster in a not scared of them way. In the way that it does when I think about Big Sis Junko?

Well...yeah, usually. But I mean...it's not just that your heart beats faster. You feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and you... [His cheeks turn faintly burgundy. No. No, stop thinking about her. That ship has sailed.] You want to spend as much time around them as possible. You want to hold their hand or...or k-kiss them. Things like that...

What if you don't want to kiss them but that's because you think kissing is super gross? Does it have to be all of those things?

[WOW SO WHAT IF HE WANTED TO KISS SOMEONE? He sure doesn't anymore because in reality it was not as enjoyable as he'd hoped. It was pretty dang awful, actually.]

Um...I guess it doesn't have to be? Everyone's different, so...everyone wants different things. [How the hell did they get on this topic it needs to stop.] But I think you might be overthinking all of this. When you really, really like someone in...that way. The romantic way, you'll know. It'll feel different than liking someone as a friend or liking firefighters because you think they're cool and you want to ride in one of their trucks.

He can definitely tell the difference now between liking firefighters because he thinks they're cool and that, but the romance and friend line is a lot more blurred for him now, after that explanation. Jataro frowns a little, clearly nothing having been cleared up at all with this conversation basically.]

[But that's the kind of answer you give to someone if you don't want to keep talking about something, so he'll just...think it over he guesses. Or ask someone else maybe...maybe Nagisa doesn't really know? He likes boobies but he guesses that doesn't mean he like likes girls or anything...]

[Nagisa sighs.]

Sorry... [He can tell that he's not helping at all, and it makes him feel bad. He rubs at the back of his head a little.] This is just one of those areas that can't just be explained with facts. It's kind of like turning into a monster: nearly everyone experiences it, but no two people have exactly the same experience.

I'll help you however I can, but this is something you'll have to come to understand on your own, for the most part.

[He smiles, picking his truck back up. Don't worry about it Nagisa.]

I though maybe I could be a firefighter, and you could be trapped in the playground when it is on pretend fire, and I could come rescue you! Or we could both be firefighters and we'll both put out the pretend fire and save the playground together!

Not necessarily. This is a matter of the heart, not the brain. So being brain smart only helps so much.

[You'll understand eventually, Jataro. Once you start to understand being liked in general more. He's sure of it.]

Anyway...I'm okay with either of those scenarios. Which would be more fun for you?

Then that's the scenario we'll play out. Though...I have to ask, is the water to fight the fire also going to be pretend?

[Not that he really sounds like he minds either way. You know how much he enjoys a good sprinkle every now and then.]

[Still better than him, but he won't argue it anymore. They have a game to play.]

Nope! I'm gonna be using my water!

[So he's definitely going to get in a good sprinkle today.]

[Yeah he is not even surprised by that answer. Instead, the nymph shrugs and pushes himself off the bed.]

Well let's go then.

[Getting to his feet, Jataro lifts the truck up in the air and-- ah, there are the noises Nagisa had been expecting. As he 'drives' it through the air, he makes a variety of engine sounds, happily making his way out the door. This is going to be so fun!!]

[There we go...this is the sort of reaction he was hoping for in response to his gift. A happy Jataro making silly engine sounds. Nagisa smiles to himself and follows the mer across the room and out the door.]

[The fire truck flies the whole way there, getting noises and a few beeps as he approaches doors that need to be opened before they're outside. Once they reach the playground, he stops and looks at Nagisa expectantly.]

Don't worry! I'll definitely protect you from the pretend fire.

I'm not worried. [It's pretend fire, after all. Jataro has made that point very clear. Once they're at the playground, Nagisa also comes to a stop. He looks over the various bits of playground equipment with a pensive look. If Jataro wants to rescue him from a pretend fire, he needs to be in a pretend burning building, right? Which one would make the best pretend building...] I know you will.

[Ah! Yes, that'll do. Without another word, the nymph walks over to the highest slide and starts climbing up the ladder. Once he reaches the top, he settles himself on the little platform, legs resting on the metal chute of the slide itself. There. Perfect. He calls down to Jataro.]

Ready?

Uh huh!

[He's so ready! Though a lightbulb seems to go off in his head after a moment and he raises one of his empty hands.]

Oh, oh! Remember to call the fire department! How will I know you need help if you don't call?

Don't worry, I was going to call the fire department first.

[Maybe. He'd at least thought about it, because that IS what you have to do in real life. But if Jataro just wanted to jump right in to the fire part, he wasn't going to complain.]

Ring ring, ring ring!!

[He's holding an invisible phone up to his ear and everything, Jataro. Taking this game of pretend Very Seriously, as usual.]
